Position Summary: The Hearth Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and service of a wide variety of gas, electric, and wood hearth appliances in residential and commercial settings. This position provides exceptional customer service by delivering high-quality experiences in alignment with company standards. Additionally, the Hearth Service Technician will assist in training Entry-Level Technicians and ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
Required Qualifications / Achievements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Insurable driving record
- NFI Certification (National Fireplace Institute) or equivalent hearth certification
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Proficiency in operating power and hand tools safely
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs on occasion
- Experience working from a 28’ extension ladder and 12’ step ladder
- Ability to perform brazing and soldering tasks for hearth systems
- Strong customer service skills and clear communication with customers and coworkers
- Willingness to invest in necessary tools for hearth service work
- Willingness to participate in training seminars and classes
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs independently on a variety of hearth appliances
- Knowledge of hearth appliance systems including gas, electric, and wood units
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with hearth appliances
Desired Qualifications / Achievements
- HVAC or Hearth Tech School Certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- NFI Certification or equivalent hearth industry certification
- Experience with gas hearth appliance installations and repairs
- Strong understanding of safety standards related to hearth appliance service
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Arrive at job sites at scheduled times and relocate as dispatched during the workday
- Operate company vehicle as needed
- Demonstrate working knowledge of diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques specific to hearth appliances
- Ability to interpret and utilize testing devices and gauges for hearth appliances
- Complete service forms and reports accurately and in a timely manner
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on residential and commercial hearth appliances without supervision
- Demonstrate proficiency in brazing, soldering, and performing minor electrical work
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while on-site
- Communicate with customers regarding the status of service visits and provide C.O.D. as directed
- Educate customers on the benefits of maintenance agreements and additional services offered by the company
- Inform customers about replacement options and other products/services in line with company guidelines
- Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of hearth appliances, including gas, electric, and wood systems
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and installation manuals
- Layout and install low voltage wiring for hearth systems as necessary
- Provide customers with detailed information about new or renewal maintenance agreement programs
- On-call availability for emergency service calls as required
- Perform light commercial system maintenance using checklists without supervision
- Maintain and repair residential and commercial hearth systems, ensuring optimal performance
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company standards for service and repair work
- Other duties as assigned
